An upcoming food-sampling event with a celebrity chef gives residents something to sink their teeth into.
DJ Chef Marc Weiss, who appeared on Food Network’s What’s Hot, What’s Cool, is coming to Columbia County’s Tasting at The Rapids on Thursday at the Savannah Rapids Pavilion in Martinez.
“He mixes beats while simultaneously preparing his delicious dishes,” county Community Events Specialist Virginia Atkins said. “It’s going to be really fun.”
Additionally, the event will showcase several local restaurants, caterers and bakeries.
Businesses to offer taste tests include Fatz Cafe, Laziza Mediterranean Grill, The Garlic Clove, Red Oak Manor, Catch Phrase Cafe and local pizzerias.
Admission costs $5 and provides guests with five sampling tickets. For an extra $5, three more tickets can be purchased.
“You go around and submit your ticket to each station,” Atkins said. “You get a sample from that restaurant.”
People can buy tickets at the door, but are encouraged to arrive prior to 6 p.m., when the event starts.
“We’ve had a really good response, so I’m telling people to get there early because we may sell out,” Atkins said.
The event is expected to end about 9 p.m. A cash bar is also available.
