Columbia County officials conducted phone interviews last week with 12 candidates to become deputy administrator for the county.
Administrator Scott Johnson said he might meet with more candidates this week and present potential candidates for his former job this month or next.
Johnson was deputy administrator from February 2008 to August, when he became the county government’s top manager. He succeeded former Administrator Steve Szablewski, who retired in September.
The role of the new deputy administrator will differ from his former duties, Johnson said.
The new deputy administrator likely will work more with the county’s broadband utility and Internet technology departments, he said.
