Parents looking for ways to keep their children and teens occupied during the holiday break can find diversions starting Monday in various winter camps for children as young as kindergartners.
The Marshall Family Y Holiday Camp, for children ages 5 to 12, will be held at the Augusta Jewish Community Center in Evans.
The camp, with two sessions Monday-Friday and Dec. 26-30, will feature holiday crafts and activities, games and other traditional camp activities, said the Family Y’s Lauren O’Neil.
Camps will be held from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m., with options for early drop-off at 7 a.m. and late pickup at 6 p.m.
Each session costs $85 for Family Y members or $120 for non-members. Scholarship applications also are available.
Children are advised to bring lunches, drinks and snacks.
The week after Christmas, Musical Theatre Workshops will hold its first Holiday Acting Camp from noon until 4 p.m.
The camp, for students ages 8 to 16, will be held in the new Musical Theatre Workshops studio at 3833 Martinez Blvd., director and theatre instructor Mickey LuBeck said.
LuBeck said she decided to start the camp for students who wanted to continue performing after the studio’s final show of the year, and for students seeking activities during their breaks.
Tuition costs $90 for the initial student, with a $75 charge for each additional family member. No prior theater experience is required. Family and friends are invited to the students’ final performance at the free dessert theater on Dec. 30 at 6:30 p.m. in the studio.
Sports camps also are available during the holiday break. See more on Page 10.
