Anyone who has lost a child is invited Saturday to celebrate that child’s life at the sixth annual A Time For Special Remembrance ceremony.
The service starts at 6 p.m. at The Sanctuary, 4584 Cox Road, Evans.
Event organizer Debra Allsup started the event to honor her daughter, Katie Ridenhour, who died of small-cell ovarian cancer three days after Christmas in 2005.
Allsup said parents who have lost a child of any age, from conception to adulthood, are invited to attend.
“I’m excited that it is going to be at The Sanctuary this year,” Allsup said.
The event previously was held at the Christ’s Sanctified Holy Church on North Belair Road in Martinez, but the ceremony outgrew the small church, Allsup said.
“It was pretty big last year,” Allsup said. “I felt like I wanted to reach more people in the community.”
The event includes music, prayer and guest speaker Heather Todd, who lost her 7-year-old son, Brian, to leukemia in 2000.
The ceremony is an opportunity to share grief and celebrate lost children, Allsup said.
Parents are invited to bring an ornament to be placed on a Christmas tree at the church, and a photo of the child for a memorial collage.
