While many start the Christmas season by decorating the tree or shopping for presents, others get in the spirit by gazing at holiday decorations that light up the night sky.

The area’s largest light display, Lights of the South, opens Sunday at 633 Louisville Road, just south of Interstate 20 near Grovetown.

Millions of lights have been illuminating the 106-acre property since 2005.

Patrons can choose to walk through the display or go on a hayride with other visitors.

After checking out the lights, children can play at Candy Land or have their picture taken with Santa Claus, who will be available through Christmas Eve night.

Other popular attractions are a lighted Christmas maze and Mrs. Claus’ Kitchen, where hot snacks, beverages and sweet treats are served.

The seasonal festivities attracts thousands each year. It’s open from 6-10 p.m. through Dec. 30 and closed Christmas night.

Admission costs $7.50 for adults and $4 for those ages 4-17. Children ages 3 and younger get in free. People will be charged an additional $3 to enter the maze.
