It’s time again for the neon lights of the fair to light up Columbia County.

Gates to the 46th annual Columbia County Fair opened at 5 p.m. Thursday. The fair, at the Columbia County Fairgrounds on Columbia Road at William Few Parkway, will run through Nov. 12, with an optional additional day on Nov. 13 in case a day is rained out.

The fair is sponsored each year by the Merchants Association of Columbia County and supports scholarships for county high school students and donations to several charities.

This year’s fair features a midway and rides by Drew Expositions, food, live entertainment, petting zoo, the Bear Mountain Show, Oscar the Robot, the Sea Lion Splash show and a master chainsaw carver.

Apollo Talent nights will be Tuesday and Nov. 10. To sign up for the talent shows, contact Stewart Ray at (706) 860-8600.

General admission tickets are $5. Admission is free with the donation of three nonperishable food items Thursday.
