While Grovetown residents decide what Halloween costume to wear, Jennifer Evans hopes they’ll also dress up a scarecrow.
Grovetown is holding the 30813 Scarecrow Contest through Monday.
Evans, the Grovetown community events coordinator, said the contest is open to any business or resident within the 30813 ZIP code, which encompasses Grovetown and much of the surrounding area.
“We’re hoping to get as many people involved as we can,” Evans said.
The contest is free, and anyone interested can enter in one of two categories – business or residential.
Go to Grovetown’s Facebook page and “like” it. Post a photo of the scarecrow to the page. The maker of the scarecrow in each category with the most “likes” will win a $100 gift card.
Evans said the contest was designed as a fun family project.
“It doesn’t take that long,” she said. “Get creative and have fun.”
Scarecrows must be in good taste and avoid controversial subjects. Entries can advertise for businesses or include a business theme, hobby or activity.
The contest ends at 5 p.m. on Oct. 31, and only one entry per business or address is allowed. If you don’t have access to a computer or camera, call (706) 869-9699 to make arrangements for a photo to be taken. For information, call Evans at (706) 860-7691.
