Evans Middle School science fair first place winners from grades six through eight are Evan Joiner, Evan McClintock, Henry Dykes, Calvin Lawyer and Sidney Loflin. Second place winners are Rachel Sawyer, Kate Foral, Timothy Meyer, Daniel Nicholson, Genevieve Lucas, Ryan Carson, Brent Harsey, Blake Stephenson, Jackson Thornton and Katie Grossman. Third place winners are Breyn Allen, Chloe Farrar, Mady Dye, Katlyn Fain, Ankita Shah, Matthew Bryan, Harry Dykes, Nancy Kye, Parker Basinger and Anna Tobin. Honorable Mention winners are Konnor Driscoll, Jarod Aldridge, Bret Odom, Anne Sample, Matthew Hauser, Cody Ebenroth, Evan Lambert, Ellen Brown, Alex Shelnut and Sydney Baker. First place winners will advance to the Regional Science Fair at USC Aiken.
Augusta West Rotary Club President David Cantrell presented a check for $500 to Greater Augusta Partnership for Literacy Vice President Pam Lightsey to sponsor siblings of the children that attend A. Brian Merry. Principal Schad has identified those younger siblings that will be receiving books each month from the Dolly Parton's Imagination Library.
Stallings Island Middle School student Brandon Glenn Bedell, son of Glen and Kin Bedell, was presented his Eagle Scout award on Jan. 22. Brandon's Eagle Scout Leadership project involved improving a classroom at St. Lukes UMC. The classroom is used throughout the week for tutoring and on the weekends for children's Sunday School.
The Evans Middle School math team recently placed third in the Georgia Southern Regional Math Tournament. Thirty-one schools participated and eighth-grader Michael Kozlowski placed fifth out of 112 students.
