Flags on Columbia County buildings today are being flown at half-staff for the funeral of slain Richmond County Deputy James D. Paugh.
Paugh, a Richmond County Sheriff's Office motorcycle patrolman, was shot and killed early Sunday morning after stopping to check on what he might have believed to be a disabled vehicle on the roadside of Bobby Jones Expressway at Gordon Highway.
Paugh was slain by Army National Regard Spec. Christopher Hodges, who then killed himself with a gunshot to the head. Hodges is a 2004 graduate of Evans High School.
