A Columbia County jury deliberating on the guilt or innocence of former Harlem mayor and county Commissioner Scott Dean, who is accused of molesting one of his adopted daughters, has reached a verdict on one count but is still deliberating on the second.

The jury deliberated for an hour after a third day of testimony on Wednesday. They resumed at 9:30 a.m. today and broke for a lunch break just before 1 p.m.

Five Guys Burgers and Fries will open its Evans restaurant Monday, which will be the third Five Guys location in the Augusta area, franchise owner Rodney Moss said.

The store at 4324 Washing­ton Road in Evans will have 45 employees. Moss and his wife and business partner, Rosemary, are leasing the newly-constructed, 2,800-square-foot restaurant space.

Initially, the Mosses planned to open their first restaurant in Evans, but construction was delayed because of the economy, Moss said.

Former Columbia County commissioner Scott Dean, accused of molesting one of his adopted daughters, took the stand to testify in his own defense Tuesday.

Dean, 42, is accused of exposing himself to and inappropriately touching his daughter, one of five children he and his wife adopted from Guatemala in 2008.

The trial began Monday.

Two Grovetown High School students recently were disciplined for committing sexual offenses.

Following a meeting with the Columbia County school system hearing officer on Nov. 29, a Grovetown High student was suspended and will enter in-school suspension once allowed to return to school, according to discipline reports collected Monday.

The other Grovetown High student was sent to the system’s alternative school in Grovetown for the remainder of the school year following a Dec. 1 hearing.
