An Appling woman was issued two county ordinance citations Thursday when her pit bull bit a mother and son.

A 28-year-old mother was asked Thursday evening by her son to walk him to a friend’s house because he was afraid of a dog that had previously ran at him near a residence on Jacqueline Drive in Appling.

As they returned home from the friend’s house, a black and white pit bull ran toward them, snapping and barking at the pair.

The mother tried throwing rocks at the dog to scare it away, but it chased after them.

Residents of the Mitchell Park neighborhood in Evans gathered Thursday evening to hold a prayer vigil for a toddler who died earlier this week.

Max Lister, a 16-month-old, choked to death on food Sunday evening at his family’s home in the 900 block of Mitchell Lane, according to a Columbia County Sheriff’s Office accidental death report.

Despite efforts from neighbors, emergency medical technicians and firefighters, the child later was pronounced dead at Doctors Hospital, the report said.

A man that police found unconscious on a road median Tuesday died at an area hospital.

A deputy found 62-year-old Eddie Reville, laying in the center median of Jimmie Dyess Parkway at Park West Drive just after midnight. Reville was not breathing and he had abrasions on his right knee and right arm.

He was transported to Doctors Hospital, where he later died in the Intensive Care Unit, according to a hospital spokeswoman.

The family of Deborah Marshall is praying for a full recovery after Columbia County’s elections director underwent emergency surgery to remove a brain tumor.

Marshall, 48, has been hospitalized since checking into the emergency room of Trinity Hospital on April 6 with a severe headache, said her husband, Lee Marshall.

A scan at Trinity found a large tumor on the upper left portion of her brain, and Marshall immediately was transferred to Georgia Health Sciences Medical Center.
