Wifesaver has closed an Evans location and is moving to Grovetown.

Franchise owner Bob Quigley opted to relocate his restaurant at 116 N. Belair Road near Columbia Road, which closed Sunday, instead of undertaking extensive renovations on the dated building. The new eatery is set to open April 29 at 5123 Wrightsboro Road.

Quigley spent three years looking for land in the vicinity of his old location, but real estate was too pricey, he said. Grovetown offered a more affordable option and a strong customer base.

Columbia County officials could put the brakes on a few races with a proposed new ordinance.

Set for discussion Tuesday during the county’s Community and Emergency Services Committee meeting, the proposal would require permits and fees for “road races, parades or public assemblies that would burden the public properties and roadways in Columbia County,” according to committee documents.

The ordinance generally would apply to any event that closes public access to streets.

Two employees of an Evans restaurant told authorities they were robbed at gunpoint early Friday morning.

The Rhinehart’s employees were leaving the restaurant at 305 N. Belair Road, one with a bag containing the nightly cash deposit, at about 12:30 a.m. A man wearing all black and a black mas over his face approached the women with a handgun and demanded the money bag. The woman with the bag gave it to the robber, who ran into the woods behind the restaurant.
