At 7:55 p.m., with rain coming down amid lightning flashes, the decision was made to postpone the GHSA Class AAAAA state baseball championship series finale between Greenbrier and Gainesville until noon Wednesday.
A 4 p.m. deluge with lightning initially wreaked havoc with the 5 p.m. scheduled start of Game 3 of the best-of-three tilt. Rain first delayed the game by an hour and when it appeared larger storms were approaching, the game was then delayed until at least 9 p.m. with the hopes of getting it in.
"We knew the rain was coming in here at 7:30, so there was no sense in starting the game only to get two or three innings in," said Wolfpack coach Jason Osborn when the game was called. "It's a good thing neither team got a pitcher warm and wasted a pitcher tonight."
