Emergency medical personnel remove a woman from a truck that crashed into another car on Washington Road in Evans Friday afternoon.

A three-car wreck closed eastbound lanes of Washington Road in Evans Friday afternoon.

The crash happened at about 2:40 p.m. on Washington Road just east of Evans to Locks Road in front of Five Guys restaurant.

A Nissan Frontier truck driven by Kyle Austin Hobson, 18, of Martinez, was traveling east through the intersection when the car in front of him changed lanes, according to Columbia County sheriff’s Deputy Leonard Newman. Hobson didn’t have to avoid hitting a Toyota Corolla stopped in a lien of traffic backed up from the intersection of Washington Road at Belair Road, according to Newman.

Hobson hit the Toyota, driven by Matthew Kolar, 23, of Evans, causing it hit the back of the Mazda Tribute in front of him. Hobson, Kolar and the driver of the Mazda, Jayme Dolores Keel, 27, of Augusta, were not injured. Hobson’s passenger was taken to a hospital with injuries that did not appear life-threatening, Newman said.

The wreck blocked traffic, which was detoured, for about 30 minutes.

Hobson was cited for following too closely, Newman said.
