The Evans Lions Club built a food pyramid more than 18 feet high and won the third annual Food 2 Fight Hunger Campaign.

The club competed with the Salvation Army in a Columbia County versus Richmond County food drive.

The Evans club collected 8,429 pounds of food, surpassing the 1,490 pounds of food collected for the Salvation Army. The winner collects the most food and uses it to build the highest pyramid.

The club built a pyramid that was 18.5 feet high on July 26 at the Kroger in Evans.

Local law enforcement and firefighters assisted with the building of the pyramid and other volunteers including 4-Hers and Girl Scouts and veterans assisted.

The club’s collections were the highest in campaign history.

The Salvation Army’s soup kitchen and food pantry, and the food collected in Columbia County benefits the Columbia County Cares food pantry and New Hope/First Baptist Church Bridge Ministry.
