Martinez teen dies after hit by car on Monday

A Martinez teen was fatally struck while attempting to cross Tobacco Road in south Augusta on Monday.

According to a release from the sheriff’s office, deputies were called to the 2600 block of Tobacco Road about 9:25 p.m. regarding a pedestrian that had been struck by a vehicle.

Richmond County Chief Deputy Coroner Mark Bowen identified the victim as Joshua Clark, 19.

Deputies spoke with several witnesses who said the teen was struck by a 1998 Chevrolet Tahoe when he tried to cross Tobacco Road after he left a nearby Huddle House.

The sheriff’s office
said Clark is a suspect in a theft of food at the restaurant.

Clark was taken to Dwight D. Eisenhower Army Medical Center where he was pronounced dead at 10:17 p.m., Bowen said.
