Columbia County sheriff's Deputy Ty Mobley gets information from Charles Edward Horne, 76, who drove his vehicle into the front of Daylight Donuts on Jimmie Dyess Parkway.

No one was seriously injured when a Grovetown man ran his car into a Columbia County donut shop Tuesday morning.

Charles Edward Horne, 76, was attempting to park his Ford Crown Victoria at about 11:30 a.m. in front of Daylight Donuts at 4045 Jimmie Dyess Parkway near Interstate 20. Horne told authorities that he was turning into the end parking space right in front of the shop when he bumped into the curb. As he backed up to readjust, Horne said another vehicle bumped into his rear bumper causing his foot to slip off the brake and onto the gas pedal, according to Columbia County sheriff’s Deputy Ty Mobley.

Horne’s vehicle jumped the curb and ran through the front glass walls of the shop and landed half way into the store

Shop owner Marsha King and two others were inside the shop, but no customers. They weren’t injured. Horne sustained a cut to his hand, but his passenger was uninjured.

Mobley said he was going to review video surveillance footage of the retail center parking lot and will continue to investigate the incident. Horne wasn’t cited.
