An Evans man was killed in what appears to be a suicide while driving on Riverwatch Parkway Tuesday morning.
The 22-year-old man, whose name was not being released pending the notification of his next of kin, was driving west on Riverwatch Parkway just after 11 a.m. when his Toyota Rav 4 hit a guard rail at near Commerce Drive, according to Columbia County Deputy Coroner Harriett Garrison.
The man was pronounced dead at the scene at about 11:30 a.m., Garrison said. An autopsy at the Georgia Bureau of Investigation Crime Lab in Atlanta is scheduled for Wednesday to determine the cause of the man’s death.
Columbia County sheriff’s Capt. Steve Morris said the man was found with a gunshot wound to the head. His death is a suspected suicide, Morris said.
The investigation into the man’s death is ongoing, but no foul play is suspected.
No one else was injured in the wreck.
