Another picture-perfect weekend is in the forecast for outdoor events in Columbia County.
The National Weather Service reports no chance of rain, sunny to partly cloudy skies and highs in the upper 80s Friday and Saturday, with a slight chance of rain later Sunday.
First up Saturday is a fundraiser yard sale for Boy Scout Troop 686, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, June 1.
The Scouts will hold the sale at Grace Baptist Church, on Hardy McManus Road in Evans.
From 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, the inaugural Hog Toss Big Green Egg Cookoff ‘N’ Cornhole Tournament will be held at Pete Alewine Pool and Spa at 4470 Washington Road, Evans.
Sponsored by Pete Alewine and and Fireside Outdoor Kitchens and Grills, the event will pit cooks against one another in a contest that will net the winner a $500 prize and bragging rights. The second-place prize is $150. First and second place winners will each receive a trophy, Hog Toss T-shirt and prize bag.
“We just wanted to create a fun event for people to come out and enjoy good food and, hopefully, nice weather,” said Peter Alewine. The store will also run a sale on all Big Green Egg “eggcessories” the day of the event and will sell the grills used by participants at a discounted rate.
There is a $75 entry fee into the Big Green Egg Cookoff. The grill will be provided by the sponsors, while the food is to be provided by the cooks. The entry fee is $75 per team.
The winners of the double-elimination cornhole tournament will receive two medium Big Green Egg grills, while second-place gets $100. Both the first- and second-place winners will receive trophies and Hog Toss T-shirts, in addition to two tickets to eat and be a taste tester/judge at the cookoff. Cost of participating in the cornhole tournament is $50 per team.
Individuals also are invited to taste test/judge the cookoff. The cost is $5 per person the day of the event, or $6 for two for those who preregister.
Sign-up sheets also are available at Pete Alewine Pool and Spa or Fireside Outdoor Kitchens and Grills, 1242 Broad St., Augusta. Cooks and cornhole teams must preregister by Friday, May 24.
Individuals interested in reserving one of the discounted grills being used in the cookoff can do so by call Alewine Pool and Spa at (706) 849-2139.
