Evans High School senior William G. Snider has been named a National Merit Scholar.
The announcement came Monday from the National Merit Scholarship Corp., naming Snider as one of 2,500 National Merit Scholars in the 2013 program from a pool of 15,000 finalists. National Merit Scholars receive a $2,500 scholarship to the university of their choice.
Snider, who plans to study mathematics in college, also is the Columbia County and Region 10 STAR Student for 2013, having scored 2390 of a possible 2400 on the SAT.
National Merit Scholars are selected by a committee of college admissions officials and high school counselors from applications submitted by the finalists and their high schools.
