Deputies are directing traffic on Washington Road at Columbia Road after a vehicle crash knocked out the traffic signal control box early Monday.

While Columbia County’s Traffic Engineering workers replace the controls, west-bound left turns from Washington to Columbia won’t be allowed, and nearby Ruth Street is closed. Motorists on Columbia Road still will be allowed to make right turns onto Washington Road.

Officials said the intersection is expected to be affected most of the day.

The motorist who struck the box about 5 a.m. was believed to have suffered a stroke and was taken to an area hospital, said Columbia County Sheriff's Capt. Steve Morris.
