Columbia County Deputy Matt Gaylord and Baros prepare to enter the woods to search for Jason Wayne Broome Friday afternoon.

Tracking dogs from the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office are assisting other agencies in a McDuffie County hunt for a man wanted for area car break-ins and credit card fraud.

Jason Wayne Broome, along with a female companion, were spotted by a Georgia Department of Natural Resources officer about 8:30 a.m. driving on Ridge Road in McDuffie County. Broome stopped his vehicle and ran into the woods, while the companion was taken into custody.

Joining the search are deputies from McDuffie and Warren counties, along with DNR agents, Georgia State Patrol troopers and Thomson Police officers. A state patrol helicopter also was called for assistance in searching the heavily wooded area in northeastern McDuffie County.

Broome is the suspect in several car break-ins, automobile theft and financial card fraud cases in McDuffie, Warren and Columbia counties as well as in North Augusta, S.C. He is described as a white male, with a medium build with brown hair wearing a light blue or white shirt and jeans. He may be armed and is considered dangerous and unpredictable.

Anyone with information is asked to call McDuffie County dispatch at (706) 595.2145 or 911.
