Outdoor events set for Thursday afternoon in Evans will have patrons looking to the skies, but the only fireworks might come from thunderstorms.

A cold front moving across the Southeast is expected to bring a slight chance of showers after 1 p.m., with an increasing chance of showers and thunderstorms after 2 p.m. under mostly cloudy skies and a high of 81, with south winds 5 to 11 mph and a 30 percent chance of rain.

Columbia County’s Evans Towne Farmers Market, held each Thursday behind the library in Evans, is set to open at 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. Nearby, the Columbia County Championship Festival continues at Evans Towne Center Park with a concert from country artist Chris Young at Lady Antebellum Pavilion, with gates opening at 6 p.m.

The system is expected to hit hardest after 10 p.m. Thursday, with more showers and possible thunderstorms, winds picking up to 11 to 15 mph and chance of rain increasing to 80 percent.

Showers and possible thunderstorms, with a 60 percent chance of rain, are expected to continue until shortly after noon Friday, then gradually clearing.

The Championship Festival concludes Friday with a concert at the Lady A from Southern rockers Lynyrd Skynyrd, with gates opening at 6 p.m.
