Columbia County and Evans High School STAR student Will Snider was named Region 7 STAR student in a reception Tuesday.
Snider will compete for state STAR student April 29 in Atlanta. The event is sponsored by the Professional Association of Georgia Educators.
Snider and his STAR teacher, Pamela Sellers, received the region STAR award during a banquet at First Baptist Church of Thomson, sponsored by Georgia Power.
In addition to the Columbia County STAR, students from the other 12 Region 7 counties competed for the region award. Two students represented Wilkes County, tying for that county’s STAR designation, along with one student each from Burke, Hancock, Jefferson, Jenkins, Johnson, Lincoln, McDuffie, Richmond, Warren and Washington counties.
To qualify as a STAR student, a senior must attain the highest SAT score from a single session and be in the top 10 percent of the class. Each student then chooses a teacher as his or her STAR teacher.
