How’s this for creepy: A cat burglar slipped in and out of a Martinez home Tuesday, and the homeowners didn’t realize the intrusion until they woke up and found items missing.
A Maywood Drive resident called the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office Tuesday after realizing the burglar had been inside his home while the family slept.
The 36-year-old man said he locked all the doors of this Maywood Drive home before going to bed at about 10 p.m. Monday, according to a Sheriff’s Office incident report. At about 1:30 a.m., the man’s wife got up to let the dog out and found his cell phone on the ground just outside the back door.
Thinking her husband dropped it the night before, the woman brought the phone back inside.
When she told her husband the next morning about finding the phone, he told deputies he realized something was wrong because he had placed his phone in a charger before going to bed.
That’s also when he discovered his wallet and his wife’s purse were missing, the report stated.
The incident remains under investigation.
