A Grovetown man turned himself in to Grovetown authorities Wednesday on child cruelty charges.
Thomas Jay Adams, 32, of Phinizy Street, is charged with two counts of cruelty to children. He’s being held in the Columbia County Detention Center on a $50,200 bond, according to jail records.
The 15-year-old brother of Adams’ wife said Adams often argued and sometimes physically fought with him and his 12-year-old brother, who also lived in the Phinizy Street home, according to Grovetown Department of Public Safety Investigator Jones Nalley.
On Jan. 29, the 15-year-old went to the department to report that a verbal altercation turned physical when Adams hit he and his brother earlier that day, Nalley said. Adams punched at least one of the boys in the head, Nalley said.
The Department of Family and Children Services was called and removed the boys from the home. They are staying with other family members, Nalley said.
