March races benefit variety of causes

Upcoming Columbia County footraces will benefit a variety of causes.

The Strength for Sawyer 5K/One Mile Fun Run will help raise money for 10-year-old Sawyer Mobley, who recently underwent a double lung transplant in St. Louis. The Bel Air Elementary School pupil had been diagnosed with cystic fibrosis.

The run will begin at 8 a.m. March 9, at Savannah Rapids Park. Individual registration costs $25, with team rates of $100 for families with four to seven participants and K-12 track teams.

• Wesley United Methodist Church’s youth ministry is raising funds for children it sponsors through Solace for Children with its fifth annual Great Wesley Chase on March 16.

Registration begins at 8 a.m. at the church. The 5K begins at 8:30 with the kids’ half-miler at 9:45. The hilly race course travels though Deer Run subdivision.

Race fees cost $12 for the half-mile; $17 for military, students and members of the Augusta Striders and $20 for others.

• The Student Ministry of Journey Community Church will sponsor the Beautiful Feet 5K run/walk on March 23 along the Augusta Canal beginning at Savannah Rapids Pavilion.

The event will raise money for missions to Clarkston, Ga., and the Dominican Republic. Check-in begins at 7:30 a.m. with the race at 8:30. Registration costs $25.
