One lane of High Hampton Drive in West Lake has now reopened as crews repair a ruptured natural gas line.
The leak occurred when a Columbia County Water Utilility crew working in the area accidentally struck the natural gas line, which ruptured near High Hampton Drive, said Columbia County Emergency and Operations Division Director Pam Tucker in an email.
As is required by law, a locator service had marked the location of gas, power and water lines before the Water Utililty crew started digging, but the marked location of the gas line was off by 6 feet, Tucker said.
One lane reopened just after noon while crews continue to work.
No one was evacuated because of the leak, Tucker added.
