A Columbia County jailer of three months was fired last week and arrested Tuesday after being accused of bringing contraband into Columbia County Detention Center.
Kester Henry Dozier, 41, was charged Tuesday with delivering prohibited articles including food, books and a cellphone to inmates and violating his oath of office after an investigation that began Feb. 5, according to Columbia County Sheriff’s spokesman Capt. Steve Morris.
“To say that we are disappointed is an understatement,” a release from the department said. “As we’ve demonstrated in the past, we enforce the law no matter who is involved, and Deputy Dozier’s actions were dealt with swiftly and justly.”
Dozier was a 21-year Army veteran who began work at the detention center Nov. 21, according to the release.
