Weather forecasters have issued a prediction for Columbia County and surrounding areas that predicts the possibility of snow for Saturday.
“A strong cold front will push through the area tonight and bring rain changing to snow by early afternoon Saturday,” writes Savannah River Site meteorologist Kelly Scott, in a bulletin distributed by Columbia County Emergency and Operations Director Pam Tucker.
“Snow totals of 1 to 2 inches with locally higher amounts of 3 to 4 inches are possible if the moisture persists throughout the evening,” with higher amounts north of the area, Scott said.
Because temperatures Saturday evening are expected to fall below freezing, that increases the likelihood of hazardous road conditions, Scott added.
