Lakeside, Greenbrier to hold fundraiser 5ks

Two Columbia County high schools are set to hold fundraiser footraces for the next two weekends.

The fifth annual Lakeside High School Panther 5K, sponsored by the school’s cross country team, will be held at 9 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 2 at the school.

The race is a fundraiser for a scholarship in memory of Lisa Meitin, the wife of cross country coach Jerry Meitin, said Carrie Brooks, a Lakeside High School teacher and an assistant cross country coach.

Lisa Meitin died in January 2012 from ovarian cancer. Scholarships will be given to one male and one female cross country runner each year.

To register, go to www.active.com. The cost is $20, with other sponsorships levels available. Race day registration, which starts at 8 a.m., costs $25.

The following week, the Third Annual Frosty’s 5! 5K run/walk will be held Feb. 9 at Greenbrier High School to raise money for the American Cancer Society, Relay for Life Columbia County.

The event begins at 9 a.m.

Prior to Feb. 1, registration costs $15 for students and $25 for adults. Registration on race day begins at 8:30 and will cost $25.
