A Grovetown man is in jail Friday after he shot his wife during an early morning argument.
Zachariah Eason McRee, 32, Grove Landing Circle, was charged with aggravated assault and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime.
At about 3 a.m., Zachariah McRee and his estranged wife, Heather, were arguing at their home over their pending divorce, according to Grovetown Department of Public Safety Chief Gary Owens. Zachariah McRee called 911 after he shot his wife in the left arm with a .45 caliber handgun.
Zachariah McRee, a U.S. Army soldier, told dispatchers that he accidentally shot his wife. He'd filed for divorce and said she showed up at his house threatening to kill herself. He said he took the gun from his wife and it accidentally discharged as he tried to push her out the door.
Heather McRee was treated and released from the Georgia Regents Medical Center Friday, according to a hospital spokesperson.
Zachariah McRee is being held in the Columbia County Detention Center in a $30,200 bond, according to jail records.
