Columbia County authorities are looking for an Augusta man they say led deputies on a brief chase early Friday morning.
Richard Adam German, 39, of the 1700 block of Powell Road, is wanted for fleeing and attempting to elude, reckless driving and driving without a license, according to Columbia County sheriff’s Capt. Steve Morris.
A deputy patrolling Wrightsboro Road near Reynolds Road at about 1:30 a.m. saw a dark-colored truck behind Bellevue Baptist Church. As the deputy approached, the driver, later identified as German, drove quickly out of the parking lot and onto Reynolds Road, according to a Columbia County Sheriff’s Office incident report. German didn’t stop for the deputy who turned on lights and sirens to pull over the Dodge Dakota.
German stopped briefly at an in intersection, then sped along Lewis Road to Gordon Highway. He went into a subdivision on Willhaven Drive, circled through the neighborhood and came back out to Gordon Highway and Powell Road, according to the report. German drove his truck on the shoulder briefly before jumping out and running into nearby woods.
Deputies interviewed the passenger in the truck who identified German as the driver, according to the report. The passenger wasn’t charged.
Anyone with information about German’s whereabouts should call the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office at (706) 541-2800.
