Viewers each week in record numbers tune in to the AMC television series The Walking Dead to see survivors fighting zombies.
On Saturday at Fort Gordon, race participants will run from zombies.
Registration is underway for the Zombie 5K, a “haunted trail” run through wooded areas of Fort Gordon sponsored by the Fort Gordon Morale, Welfare and Recreation program. It costs $35, and runners receive a T-shirt, along with a beverage ticket and free admission to the Apocalypse Party that follows the race.
Participants, who must be 14 or older, check in starting at noon at Third Avenue and 31st Bypass next to the Fort Gordon Dinner Theater. Heats begin at 2 p.m.
Runners, wearing “life belts” similar to those used in flag football, will start the course in groups. During the run, participants will be chased by “zombies” who attempt to pull the flags and knock the runners out of the race.
The Apocolypse Party, featuring live music, will be held from the end of the final race until 10 p.m. Each race registration includes free party admission for the runner and up to three spectators.
