No one was injured in a late night fire that damaged an Evans home Wednesday.
A homeowner and a passing Columbia County sheriff’s deputy called in the fire at 270 Legion Drive in Evans at about 11:20 p.m.
“The first units arrived and the entire carport was engulfed in fire,” Martinez-Columbia Fire Rescue Batt. Chief Danny Kuhlmann said.
The occupants escaped the home unharmed.
The blaze destroyed a carport and enclosed garage. The home sustained heavy smoke damage, Kuhlmann said.
A fire department investigator is trying to determine the cause of the fire on Thursday, Kuhlmann said.
