Several leadership opportunities for teens are available, with deadlines fast approaching.
• The Junior Board of the Watson-Brown Foundation is accepting applications from teens from Columbia County and other surrounding areas through Friday.
• Georgia State School Superintendent Dr. John Barge is accepting applications for the 2012-2013 Student Advisory Council.
The council meets twice during the school year, Nov. 7 and March 6, with the superintendent to discuss how decisions made at the state level are affecting students throughout Georgia. All students in grades 9-12 are eligible to apply.
The deadline for applications is Friday. Applications are available at www.doeK12.ga.us.
• Gov. Nathan Deal is seeking 15 to 20 teen drivers for a one-year term on the Governor’s Commission on Teen Driving, a panel of Georgia teens who will advise state officials on innovative approaches that could reduce the number of crashes, injuries and deaths involving teen drivers.
Drivers between the ages of 15 and 19 are being encouraged to apply before Sept. 20. For information, call the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety at (404) 656-6996.
