Hoodzy, a Pomeranian, is carried to the home owner after being rescued from a fire on Bridlewood in Evans. Two dogs were found cowering in their beds in a laundry room as water from the fire hoses poured down on them.

A fire deostroyed an Evans home Wednesday afternoon.

Martinez-Columbia Fire Rescue personnel were called shortly before 1p.m. to a home at 4165 Bridlewood Trail, in the Bridlewood Subdivision off Furys Ferry Road. No one was home.

A neighbor saw smoke coming from the roof and called 911.

When firefighters arrived, they found the two-story brick home engulfed in flames, and moved in an aerial truck to fight the fire from above, according to Batt. Chief Anthony Lovett.

Though fire investigators could not immediately determine a cause, the fire is believed to be accidental and no foul play is suspected, department spokesman Jeremy Wallen said Thursday. Fire investigators believe the fire started in the attic.

Capt. Gary Griffith was not seriously injured when a piece of debris fell on his head inside the burning home.

Two dogs, found cowering in their beds under a shelf in the laundry room, were rescued and returned to their owners unharmed.
