A custodian at Lakeside High School has been placed on leave as authorities investigate a student’s claim of sexual misconduct.

Columbia County sheriff’s investigators were called to Lakeside Friday after a 17-year-old girl made an allegation of “sexual battery” against a custodian at the school, according to an incident report.

“What brought this to our attention is that she said he inappropriately touched her, but we have no witnesses or anything," school Superintendent Charles Nagle said.

Capt. Steve Morris said the girl told authorities that she was touched inappropriately by the custodian at the school.

The allegation then followed that another Lakeside student, 16, claimed she had been sexually abused, off campus, by the custodian about a year ago, according to the report.

School officials took statements from both students, who also are in the process of being interviewed by investigators.

As of Tuesday morning, no charges had been filed, sheriff's Capt. Steve Morris said.

“I don’t know if there’s any validity to it at all,” Nagle said. “It’s just an allegation at this time.

“We turned all that over to the sheriff’s office to investigate.”

The Department of Family and Children Services also was called to assist in the investigation.

Nagle said the custodian will remain on leave pending the outcome of the investigation.

Let me get this straight.

A year ago a student reported she had been sexually abused by him AND HE IS STILL WORKING AT THE SCHOOL A YEAR LATER?
Sheesh.
Glad my kid doesn't go there.

Read again...

"The allegation then FOLLOWED that another Lakeside student claimed she had been sexually abused, off campus, by the custodian about a year ago, according to the report."

It seems clear to me the incident was not reported when it occurred...

Sweet son

@Nagle

"Don't know if there is any validity..........just an allegation." Please don't put a subliminal question mark in your comment. Your job is first to protect your students which means trusting them until it has been proven otherwise. Then secondly protect the rights of your employee and remove him from the possibility of any other accusations which I am proud to see you have done!

We don't know all of the details so we will have to depend on you and our news outlets for accurate information.

Thanks.

"The allegation then followed...." is very awkward grammatically

BobbyHodges but it could be read your way and possibly in other ways.

BobbyHodges

If

you say so...

Barry Paschal

Bobby reads it correctly

I'm not seeing the awkward grammar.

@Dixieman

I thought it was awkward too! Had to read it a couple of times to try to understand what Jenna was attempting to say.
