A Evans woman who didn’t get her fried chicken fast enough was cited with public drunkenness Tuesday night after an altercation with restaurant workers.
Helen Lavern Turner, 53, walked into Hardee’s on Washington Road at about 7:30 p.m., and ordered chicken, according to a Columbia County Sheriff’s Office incident report. An employee told her it would take several minutes to cook and gave Turner part of her meal.
Turner became irate while waiting and started calling the employee “ignorant” and claiming the employee was “treating her badly because of her race,” the report stated.
When the food was ready, Turner walked up to the front of the restaurant and threw the chicken on the counter, the report stated. She began banging on the counter and insulting other employees.
When deputies arrived, Turner admitted she had been drinking earlier, the report stated. She tried to walk away and was issued a citation for public drunkenness, according to Sheriff’s Capt. Steve Morris.
