Sikh interfaith prayer vigil to be held Friday

Members of the local Sikh Community are hosting a night of interfaith prayer and a candlelight vigil for victims of religious hate crime Friday night at Gurdwara Guru Singh Sabha on Evans To Locks Road.


The event, scheduled to begin at 7 p.m., is in memory of the six Sikhs killed in Sunday’s mass shooting in Oak Creek, Wisconsin, and in response to the alleged arson of an Islamic mosque in Joplin, Mo., on Monday.


Speakers will condemn hate crimes and support understanding and cooperation between members of various faiths in the area, They will include Hossam Fadel of the Islamic Soceity of Augusta, Andy Reese of the Interfaith Fellowship of Augusta and more.


Refreshments will be served at the end of the evening and the candlelight vigil is scheduled to begin at 8:45 p.m.
