Authorities are looking for a motorist who caused a wreck near Harlem Tuesday and drove away from the scene.
The crash happened at about 4:30 p.m. on Gordon Highway at White Road and required Johnny Eugene Green, of Dearing, to be airlifted to the Medical College of Georgia Hospital. Green was listed in fair condition Thursday morning, according to hospital spokeswoman Christen Carter.
The driver at fault was in a white late model Pontiac Trans Am last seen traveling west on Gordon Highway toward Harlem, Columbia County sheriff’s Capt. Steve Morris said.
A witness said she was driving behind a Ford Explorer that was forced to swerve to avoid the Trans Am, which had crossed the center line into oncoming traffic.
Green, who was driving the Explorer, swerved into a ditch, tried to overcorrect and overturned the vehicle.
Emergency personnel extricated Green from the vehicle. Of three other passengers in the Explorer, Clifton Pressley was taken to an area hospital by ground ambulance with injuries that did not appear to be life-threatening. Carolyn Green and a 2-year old female were treated at the scene.
