Columbia County authorities have arrested a second suspect in the June 11 shooting of an Evans man.
Joquel Tre’Shon Downs, 17, of Augusta, is being held in the Richmond County Detention Center after his arrest this weekend in connection with the shooting of Julian Derrick Bell, said Columbia County Sheriff’s Capt. Steve Morris.
Robert Donnell Hobbs, 19, of Martinez, already is in custody for the shooting that started with an argument over a basketball game at Wedgewood Park Apartments.
Bell told authorities he left the complex and drove to his house on Evans-to-Lock Road, where he said Hobbs and Downs approached him and Downs fired a handgun into his car, according to a police report.
Bell was hit twice in the left thigh and once in the abdomen. He was treated at the Medical College of Georgia Hospital and is now recovering, said Columbia County sheriff’s Capt. Steve Morris.
Downs and Hobbs are charged with armed robbery, possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime and aggravated assault, and are being held without bond, Morris said.
