A fund has been set up to help defray the funeral costs for a Grovetown man killed by a falling limb.

Steven Cotton, 42, of the 100 block of Lottie Lane, was killed shortly before 5 p.m. Monday when a limb fell from about 80 feet up in a backyard tree, said Columbia County Coroner Vernon Collins.

The limb struck a nearby shed, and a piece broke off and struck Cotton in the head. He was killed instantly, Collins said.

Funeral services for Cotton will be held Sunday at Platt’s Funeral Home on Belair Road, in Evans. A fund to help defray costs for the funeral has been set up at Wells Fargo bank.

Donations may be made at any Wells Fargo branch for the Steven Cotton Benefit Memorial Fund.
