An Evans teen charged with raping a 12-year-old girl will remain in jail.

Superior Court Senior Judge Albert M. Pickett refused to grant a bond for Blake Davis Weems, 17, at a hearing Friday in Evans.

Weems, of Quinn Drive, is charged with rape and aggravated child molestation.

He was arrested June 12 after a 13-year-old girl told her parents that he molested her beginning last summer, when she was 12.

The girl said Weems forced her to have sex and commit other sex acts with him, according to the Columbia County Sheriff’s office incident report.

“He admits it was against her will, he knew it was wrong, but he couldn’t help himself,” Jared Williams, of the District Attorney’s Office, told the judge Friday.

Pickett denied to grant a bond, but said he’d reconsider it if a proposal involved an electronic monitoring device.

Weems is being held in the Columbia County Detention Center.

Sweet son

This is not the whole story!

Go to the Sheriff's web site and check to see what all 3 charges were!

Headline?

What's up with the headline here saying "accused of molestation" when it clearly says he raped her (he admitted it was against her will)? Especially since the other current story of another teen denied bond specifies that he was charged with rape? Found here:http://newstimes.augusta.com/latest-news/2012-07-06/judge-denies-bond-for-teen-accused-of-rape. Why call it what is was in one headline but not another?

Legally, he's still accused

Legally, he's still just accused until adjudicated. The language in the headline is used accordingly.

I agree with using the term

I agree with using the term accused, of course- until there's a conviction, there's no reason to not use accused or alleged. I take issue with the headline referring only to the charge of molestation, ignoring the charge of rape in this story, but include the charge of rape in the headline in the other story.
