Columbia County authorities Thursday arrested a man who they say robbed a Martinez bank Thursday morning.
Ted Howard Screws, 44, of Sally Drive in Martinez, was charged Thursday evening with armed robbery and is being held at the Columbia County Detention Center without bond, said Columbia County Sheriff's Capt. Steve Morris in an email.
Investigators say Screws is the man who walked into First Bank of Georgia on Furys Ferry Road at about 10 a.m. and handed the bank teller a note and a homemade device, Morris said.
The man rceived an undisclosed amount of money and left the bank in a white Ford F-250 extended cab truck with a camper shell.
Richmond County's bomb squad responded to the bank and took the device out of precaution. It turned out to be a fake pipe bomb, Morris said.

It sounds as if he wanted to
It sounds as if he wanted to be caught. Great job by CCSO!
Hard Times
Yeah. He must have fallen on hard times. A few years in the slammer should help him get his life back on track.
