The Columbia County Planning Commission granted a Grovetown church’s request Thursday to add a temporary building for more gathering space.
Planning commissioners approved a rezoning so that a doublewide mobile home could be placed temporarily behind Emmanuel Faith Christian Tabernacle at 4470 Wrightsboro Road.
If approved by county commissioners on July 17, the acre lot would change from single-family residential and special district to the latter zoning category.
The structure will be used as classroom space and a fellowship hall. Additional parking also is planned on the property.
The mobile home must be removed within five years.
A second rezoning also was approved to allow for a medium-density residential development at the 4500 block of Willie Daniel Drive in Evans. The homes will be between 2,400 and 3,000 square feet.
Also at the meeting, the board approved two final plats for new sections within Somerset at Williamsburg and Riverwood Plantation. A preliminary plat for the first phase of Blackstone off Point Comfort Road also was passed by planning commissioners.
All planning commission actions must be ratified by the county Board of Commissioners to become final.
