Columbia County Republican Party Chairman Brian Slowinski recently resigned his post.
Slowinski, a Martinez resident, said in an email that he gave his resignation letter to party Vice Chair Dewey Galeas to read Tuesday at an executive board meeting.
A candidate for the District 1 seat on the Columbia County Board of Education, Slowinski said he resigned to focus on his election and allow other party officials to focus on other races.
Current District 1 incumbent Wayne Bridges chose not to seek re-election.
Also running for the seat are attorney David Dekle of Martinez and homemaker Carolyn Chase of Evans.
Galeas assumes the role of party chair.
