Columbia County authorities charged a Martinez man Wednesday with sex crimes against a young girl across several years.

Alton Henry Rau III, 23, of Loblolly Trail, allegedly molested the victim, now 19, on numerous occasions when she was between the ages of 6 and 12, according to a sheriff’s office incident report. The incidents occurred between 1999 and 2004.

The incidents happened at homes in Martinez and Grovetown, according to the report.

Rau is being held in the Columbia County Detention Center without bond, according to jail records.

He was already jailed before the child molestation charge to await trial on charges of drug possession and financial transaction card theft for incidents that occurred in March.

Rau also was arrested in May for possession of a Schedule IV drug and possession of marijuana, according to the report.

@jrsc

There is two different cases going on right now, maybe it was just some confusion. The other young man is a teen.

Just My Opinion

So, let me get this

So, let me get this straight...the man is 23 and the victim is now 19, a 4 year age difference. The article goes on to say the abuse happened when the victim was between the ages of 6 and 12. So, with the age difference, the abuse happened when the "man" was between the ages of 10 and 16. I realize that the abuse may or may not have happened, but this was not as the article insinuates..it was not a "man" abusing a "young girl". To me, that casts a different light on this entirely.... you have a case of a very psychologically troubled child (when 10) on up to a very psychologically troubled teenager (when 16) committing the abuse, not a 23 year old adult. You see what I mean?? Very, very sad, either way you look at it.
