Columbia County authorities have identified a second suspect in the Monday night shooting of an Evans man.
Joquel Tre’Shon Downs, 17, has been identified as the second suspect in connection with the shooting of Julian Derrick Bell on Evans to Locks Road. The first suspect was identified Tuesday as Robert Donnell Hobbs, 19, of Old Evans Road in Martinez.
Bell told authorities he was playing basketball Monday evening at Wedgewood Park Apartments when he got into an argument with two men. Bell said he went home about 10:45 p.m., before the argument escalated, according to a Columbia County Sheriff’s Office incident report.
Once Bell parked at his house on Evans to Lock Road, he said Hobbs and another man, now believed to be Downs, approached him and fired a handgun into his car, according to the report.
Bell was shot twice in the left thigh and once in the abdomen. He was taken to the Medical College of Georgia Hospital, where he underwent surgery Tuesday morning and is now recovering, said Columbia County sheriff’s Capt. Steve Morris.
Downs and Hobbs are wanted for armed robbery, possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime and aggravated assault. Both men are considered armed and dangerous.
Hobbs is 5-foot-11 and weighs 160 pounds. Downs is 5-foot-8 and weighs 130 pounds. Both are black.
Anyone with information on their whereabouts should call the sheriff’s office at (706)-541-2800.
