Columbia County motorists should now be able to access the roundabout on Ronald Reagan Drive.

The roundabout was scheduled to reopen at 10 a.m. today as was the new extension of Ronald Reagan Drive, which connects Evans Town Center Boulevard with North Belair Road in Marshall Square, according to an email by Columbia County Emergency and Operations Director Pam Tucker.

Ronald Reagan Drive will now start at Washington Road, cross Evans Town Center Boulevard and connect to the newly-renovated roundabout. The road then runs to the North Belair Road and Industrial Park Drive intersection, Tucker said.

The new section of Ronald Reagan Drive will feature additional angled parking in the Evans Town Center, she said.

Waste of money

Having lived in Europe (not a visit, but years spent driving there) I have to say that in my opinion, this was a complete waste of taxpayer money. A traffic circle is used in a high traffic area, they are usually quite large and they serve their function with enough size to allow several large trucks and heavy traffic to keep moving; not just a little game of ring-around-the-rosy. If you're going to build a traffic circle, then build one at the intersection of Belair and Washington or any large intersection and make it significant enough to handle the traffic load.
